Sports Physical Therapist

Professional Profile:

Dr. Kendal Martin began her collegiate education at Virginia Tech, where she graduated in with her B.S degree in Human Nutrition Foods, and Exercise, with a minor in Spanish. Upon graduating in 2009, she went on to obtain her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Marymount University in Arlington, VA. 

After completing her DPT degree in 2012, she began work in sports medicine outpatient orthopedics, with emphasis on running injuries, and optimizing functional movement patterns. From there, she followed her passion for working with children and sports-related injuries, working as a Sports Medicine Physical Therapist for the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Chesapeake, VA. There she gained specialized experience in working with various sports related injuries, participated in research to optimize outcomes post ACL reconstruction, and facilitating safe return to sports in patients of all ages.

As a former D1 college softball player, she enjoys working with the overhead athlete population, but also has a passion for working with runners of all ages and experience levels. She employs a mixture of therapeutic exercise and activity, manual therapy, dry needling, and corrective exercise. Being dedicated to lifelong learning, Kendal is in the process of becoming an APTA Sports Certified Specialist.

Athletic Profile:

Kendal played softball and was a competitive cheerleader all throughout high school but continued on to play on Virginia Tech’s D1 softball team as a catcher. After graduating she became very involved in fitness and running. She enjoys long-distance running and training for half-marathons, and has recently started getting into high-intensity interval training. As she is originally from Roanoke, she is looking forward to returning to the area, and exploring all that this area has to offer.
